Gallica

Another resource for history buffs and miniature war gamers is the website Gallica.  Gallica is the digital archives of the Bibliothèque nationale de France (BnF) or the National Library of France. It features French, Portuguese and Spanish versions.  Searching the images is very interesting.

Search for the following key words in Images.  (Note: the selection buttons for All Gallica, Books, Manuscripts, Maps, Images and Periodicals is above the search window).

Militaire    uniformes   guerre  soldat   Maroc  Tonkin (you get the idea–try to use French words for what you are searching for.)

You can also read books, and periodicals if you are so inclined and you can download ones that interest you.  Many of these have illustrations that I’ve never seen before.  Don’t be afraid of this website if you don’t do well with French.  The link below is to the English language version which makes some of the web page navigation options appear in English.
