Foreign Legion Insignia: 1er Régiment Étranger

Quick little post.  I came across a small paragraph that describes the origin of the insignia of the 1st Regiment of the Foreign Legion.   It seems that the veterans of the Mexican campaign wore a medal that commemorates their service.  This was later adopted into an informal insignia by the 3rd Company whose lineage goes back to the Legion unit that fought at Camerone, Mexico, on 30 April 1863.
